It’s nearly Christmas!
We’ve been resisting it for weeks, but since we’re nearly half way through November… we’ve finally succumbed to thinking about buying Christmas presents. As such, we really like this heartwarming TV ad’ from John Lewis.

We won’t spoil it by telling you the answer, suffice to say we think it a highly effective piece of creative.

Advertising… it’s the pits!
We’ve brought you some interesting marketing ideas in the past (one of our favourites being the escalator advertising)… but we’re not overly sold on this concept from deodorant brand ‘Right Guard’.
Clearly it’s just a PR stunt… designed to get people talking. In that respect, it has worked (we’re writing about it here after all).
Brand owners Procter & Gamble might want to work on their site rankings though… a UK Google search for ‘Right Guard’ brings up a security company offering burly bouncers door staff.
Friday fun – guess the brand
See if you can guess the name of the manufacturer in this new car ad.
Clearly there is a bold statement being made here. We’re not convinced that audiences will buy into the message however. Worse still, does the ad’ have a disappointing ending, which simply re-enforces a negative stereotype about the product in question? Only time will tell.
New Cadbury TV ad
We’re not sure what we think to this new TV ad from Cadbury (the follow up to the ‘Gorilla’ campaign)… suffice to say, it might explain some of the missing luggage at Heathrow’s new Terminal!
Free desktop wallpapers
OK, so this won’t save you any time… but it might brighten up your PC a bit! Those of you that know us well, will know of our passion for all things automotive. We also love computers (both PCs and Macs) and we love a bargain too (after all, our favourite price is free!). Mix all of these things up, and what do you get?……… You get free desktop wallpapers of course! Head on over to the Top Gear site for a fantastic selection of images to spruce up your screen (including some from the new F1 season). Admittedly, these will only appeal to other ‘petrolheads’… so if cars are not your thing, the you might want to take a look at this mighty fine selection. Tide
It has been a couple of weeks since we saw this ad (which was broadcast during the US superbowl)… but we’ve shown it to a few clients who suggested we should include it in ‘Pick n Mix’.
We like the ad for a number of reasons:-
- It’s different
- It’s memorable
- It’s clear what is being adveristed
- It’s easy to relate to
We also like the interactive website which encourages user involvement www.mytalkingstain.com Overall we think it’s a well executed campaign… re-enforcing our view that the simplest ideas are often the best!
